Market Watch (Şeker Yatırım)

The BIST100 Index started Wednesday on a negative trend, then rallied led by the banks in the afternoon. The Index closed the day at 5,438, up 1.05%. The Banking Index diverged positively, up 7.84%, while the Industrial Index diverged negatively, down 0.79%. We think that the uptrend that started after the latest measures and support for the stock market may continue until the elections, albeit with occasional pullbacks. Stock and sector-based divergences will likely continue in step with expectations after the balance sheet period and in the continued wake of the earthquakes. It is probable that any political statements to emerge before the election, expected to take place on 14 May, may increase volatility. And yet we expect the fluctuating uptrend to continue until the election date. On the global front, risk appetite remains weak amid expectations that the Fed will continue to increase interest rates. Yesterday, the U.S., European and Asian Stock Markets ended with mixed movements. This morning, the U.S. and German DAX futures maintain their sellers' course, while Asian Stock Markets are mixed. While the Dollar Index maintains its strong course above 105, the VIX is priced above 19, indicating increased volatility in the U.S. stock markets. Domestically, the VIOP-30 Index closed the evening session up 0.44%. Locally, we expect the Benchmark Index to start the day with a positive trend, and the uptrend to continue as possible intraday pull-backs yield buying opportunities. SUPPORT: 5,377 - 5,298 RESISTANCE: 5,514 - 5,569.
