• The BIST closed the half-trading session on Thursday on a loss of near 1% at 5012, with a turnover of TRY 20.5bn, as the Banks fell by 3.66% and the Mining stocks lost 2.40% as XAUUSD slipped down to US$1980.
• As such, TCELL, TOASO and ENKAI manged to top the BIST30 highest gainers’ list, whereas GARAN, AKBNK and ISCTR were the most sold.
• For the week as a whole, the BIST100 fell by 1.58%, as the Banks managed to actually edge higher by 0.40% despite Thursday’s sales, and the Mining stocks were the biggest earners by rising a little over 2%, whereas the Conglomerates and the Industrials fell by 2.45% and 1.86%,
• The TRY depreciated by 0.22% and 0.18% against the USD and the Euro, respectively, and both the 2yr and 10yr yields fell by 8.75% and 1.22%, respectively.
• On the commodity front, Brent fell sharply by 5.34% during the week, and whereas ounce Gold fell by 1.04%, gram GOLD rose by 1.84% thanks to weakening TRY.
• As of Thursday’s close, the TRY is trading flat at 19.41, and the Euro is at 21.30. The 2yr and 10yr bond yields will start the week 14.19% and 12.17%, respectively.
• On the commodity front, Brent is flat at USD 80.42, and both ounce and gram prices are trading lower at USD 1980 and TRY 1224, respectively.
• We expect a flat to slightly up opening at the BIST today as SP500 futures are up 0.1% and Eurostoxx futures are up 0.5% since Thursday’s half day closing of BIST.
• Last week, Foreigners’ were net BUYERS of USD 179mn STOCKS, but net SELLERS of USD 6mn BONDS, thus, ytd, Foreigners were net SELLERS USD 823mn STOCKS, but net BUYERS of USD 79mn BONDS.
NEWS FLOW:
• ASTOR disclosed that it has signed 3 agreements in Spain totalling around €3.5mn, and a deal in Malaysia worth €0.90mn
• BIMAS: Disclosed that its case to annul the fine by the competition board was overturned, but will elevate the case in the Court of Appeals.
AGENDA:
• On the local front this week, the Capacity Utilization Rate, Real Sector Confidence Index, the MPC (Rates are expected to remain unchanged), and Foreign Trade Balance will be released, whereas on the US front, New Home Sales, Central Board Consumer Confidence Index, Durable Goods Orders, the GDP Growth Rate, Pending Home Sales, and the Michigan Confidence Level will be released.
• On the Eurozone front, the Consumer Confidence and GDP growth, Germany will be disclosing its IFO, Unemployment, and GDP Growth Rate and Inflation, and the BOJ will also be convening this week.
• This week, TAVHL, AKBNK, GARAN, TKFEN, AYGAZ and TUPRS are expected to release their 1Q23 earnings.
