Outlook:
The BIST100 Index started Thursday on a positive trend, moving in a narrow band throughout the day close to 5,500 amid selling pressure. The Index closed flattish at 5,446.22, up 0.14%. The Banking Index diverged negatively, down 43%, while the Industrial Index diverged positively, up 0.96%. We think that the uptrend that started after the latest measures and supports for the stock market may continue in the short term, even if there are pullbacks. We believe that stock and sector-based divergences will continue along with expectations after the balance sheet period and the earthquakes. Political developments and statements to be made before the election, expected to take place on May 14, will increase volatility. We think that strong sales caused by rising concerns about the banking sector due to the rise in bond interest rates in global stock markets may also spread to the Banking Index, which has displayed a strong performance in the short term. Amid mounting concerns that the rise in the U.S. bond yields would dent bank balance sheets, and the U.S. SVB Bank announcement that it had written a loss of USD1.8 billion in selling a part of its bond portfolio, there were sharp sales in the U.S. Stock Markets, led by banking stocks. On the global side, risk appetite remains weak with expectations that the Fed will continue to raise interest rates. On Thursday most indices in the USA, Europe and Asia followed a selling trend. With the effect of hawkish messages from the Fed, the weak course in global risk appetite is expected to continue in the short term. According to the BIST close this morning, U.S. futures were between 2.5-3% and German futures were observing a strong decrease of 1.3%. Asian Stock Markets are experiencing strong selling pressure in parallel with the U.S. markets. Domestically, the VIOP-30 Index ended the evening session down 0.47%. Locally, we expect the uptrend to continue even if the Benchmark Index starts the day with sellers, due to dividend payments (-29 points) and strong sales in global stock markets. SUPPORT: 5,377 - 5,290 RESISTANCE: 5,514 - 5,569.
