THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES

The BIST faced another day of harsh sell-offs, closing the day 3.87% lower at 7265, but on a low turnover of TRY
42.8bn, with the trough observed at 7208, as the absence of foreign investors (recent buyers) due to the
holiday season, revealed the “naked truth” about the BIST, that locals were less interested in the BIST on the
back of rising interest rates.

The Energy and Mining stocks were once again the most sold stocks, but there were really were no winners
yesterday.

Among the BIST100 stocks, only AKSA managed to close positively, and AKCNS closed unchanged, and that can
be attributed to the new urban transformation overhaul to take place especially in Istanbul, while the GUBRF
once again closed limit-down, causing it to disclose that there was no event/news for sharp sell-offs, and was
followed by KOZAA and ODAS among the blue-chips.

Despite making a positive opening, ASELS shares also fell by over 3%, ahead of today’s Sweden NATO accession
talks at the Foreign Affairs Committee, and PGSUS could not celebrate properly the opening of its new runway,
itself ending the day on a loss of 3.23%.

As of print, the TRY is trading weaker against both the USD and the EURO at 29.31 and 32.31, respectively,
while the DXY is slightly lower at 101.61. On the Bonds’ side, the 2yr rates fell by a modest 2bps to 37.37%,
whereas the 10yr rates rose by 15 bps to 25.87%.

On the Commodity side, Brent is trading higher at $79.10, and Ounce and Gram GOLD are also higher at $2064
and TRY 1945, respectively.

A little news feed from across our borders, Samsung revealed that it has delayed mass production of its
semiconductor plant in the US to 2025.
