The BIST100 Index started Friday on a positive trend, closing the day at 9,045.97, up 1.07%. The Industrial Index rose 0.98% and the Banking Index gained 0.54%. On a weekly basis, the BIST100 rose 4.39% carrying its upward streak to the 6th week, while the Industrial Index gained 5.47% and the Banking Index diverged negatively, up 2.28%. Following the change in Central Bank Governor confidence in the transition to rational policies has increased, and interest in the BIST has continued. Last week, January CPI inflation data and the first inflation report of the year were followed domestically. After the 6.7% inflation print recorded in January, markets focused on the presentation of the inflation report. Contrary to the market consensus, the CPI expectation for the end of 2024 was kept constant at 36%. In the presentation, the determination to establish disinflation was emphasized, and it was stated that there was no need for an additional interest rate increase at the present time, although additional tightening could be achieved if necessary. According to CBRT data, with non-residents remaining buyers at the BIST in the week of January 26 - February 2, their net position for 2024 so far reached + USD 208mn with a purchase of USD 133mn. As long as confidence in rational policies, the decline in CDS, and foreign investor interest continue we maintain our positive outlook on the BIST. However, we recommend prudent stock selection at current levels, and profit-taking may occur in the short term. Sales are likely to present buying opportunities for the medium term. On the global front, with a quiet data agenda last week, major stock markets ended positively led by the U.S. Stock Markets. As we start the new week, the U.S. and German DAX futures are trading somewhat negatively, while Asian Stock Markets are closed for the Chinese New Year. This week domestically unemployment data emerges today and balance of payments data on Tuesday. On the global front, key prints such as U.S. CPI on Tuesday and Euro Zone GDP growth on Wednesday will be followed. The data will continue to determine risk appetite. The VIOP 30 Index ended the evening session up 0.49%. Locally, we expect the Benchmark Index to start Monday with a limited positive trend and attempt to sustain its rise, despite any intraday profit-taking. SUPPORT: 9,000 - 8,900 RESISTANCE: 9,150 - 9,300.
